Multimodality is the combinations of multiple different modes into one medium to create a flowing concept that makes the most sense.  The point of multimodality is to make a concept understood as easy as possible using different modes that work together. Genre is a category of artistic, musical, or literary composition characterized by a particular style, form or content. I’m not entirely sure how genre and multimodality have a relationship but one way that I can rationalize it in my mind is that multimodality itself is a genre. Mediums that use multiple modes are in their own genre, while mediums of single modes are a different genre. However upon reading Appendix 2, I can see that genre itself is made up of multiple modes. What goes into a genre for film and television is the narrative, characterization, themes, setting, iconography, and filmic techniques. All of these are different modes that go into determining the genre of a certain show so it exemplifies that multimodality is a component of genre.
