For my Wiki on the genre of text,
my partner and I have chosen Punk Rock.
A Wiki is comprised of four core principals that set it apart from other
resources. These four core principals
establish that Wiki is non-biased, allow the user to edit the content within
reason, and provide accurate information from multiple sources at a
glance. Given this definition, it can be
assumed that there are not many academic resources that outline Punk Rock. However, this is not the case. For out Wiki, we have found five sources that
we can use to give an accurate, non-biased depiction of Punk Rock.
Our first
source we will use is “Punk and Grunge Culture” by Michelle Dagnino. Dagnino’s article provides us knowledge on
how Punk culture was shaped and what it stood for. She also provides us avenues for which Punk
has radiated into and how the genre continues to shape itself with its
antiestablishment theme.
The next
source we found is “The Ramones” by Chris Smith. Smith’s article debunks a well-known American
Punk Rock band and how their music fueled political movements in the United
States. The Ramones are regarding as the
first Punk Rock band because they used preexisting components from underground
rock bands before them in order to create a sound and genre that has been never
heard before.
Similarly
to the previous paragraph, another academic source we will use will be
detailing the band the Sex Pistols. The
Sex Pistols is a United Kingdom Punk Rock band that also contributed to the
political activist movement propelled by Punk Rock. Brian Cogan’s article will provide
information on how the Sex Pistols songs influenced teens during this time
period.
We also
found a New York Times article titled “This Is Punk?” shows how Punk Rock has
evolved and what changes have been made to the genre. This a progressive article in the sense that
it is speculation based off current trends.
There are only select sections we can take from this article as to not
compromise the integrity of the Wiki.
The last
article we found is titled “Punk Music and Culture”. This last article provides new insight into
the Punk Rock movement and shows how powerful these themes are to teenagers
across the world.
