Blog post 6

To define what multimodality is, we must first talk about what a mode is. Modes in my mind, from what I got from the reading are different ways to convey a message. They are different attitudes, different tones, and different medias that are used to get information across. Everything that conveys a message is a mode, The thing that separates these modes is how they are said and the way with which they are said. Knowing that, I Think that multimodality is an assemblage of modes that you put together so that they can work together to accomplish the goal that you have. That goal being to get your information across in a smooth and understandable way. Not all modes are appropriate for all situations, that’s why there are so many of them. As the author says, you wouldn’t turn in a college essay written in orange crayon. Just like I wouldn’t email my professor using emojis. Al l different modes are set up for all different situations. This really ties in with what we are doing with the remediation of our papers. You have to choose a mode that is appropriate with the audience that you are trying to reach. Wysockis take multimodality is that the spacing between information is more important then anything. The spacings between paragraphs and words can help us interpret information differently. However Kress’s take on multimodality is that it is comprised of multiple modes, all coming together to create something unique. Something that reaches out to the reader and helps them understand the message that the author is trying to get across.
