For the opening statement for my genealogy project, I will quote Benjamin Franklin in that “Originality is the art of concealing your sources.” My three topics of choice have been broken down to their multiple components and are going to be the claims for my topic. This is just a rough idea of how I want to go through each topic. There will be more parts added and some parts taken away.
- The Art of Sport and Game (with basketball or football as the recurring example and reference)
- Any team sport has one idea in mind, to accomplish a certain task or goal. Every sport we know today such as basketball, football, baseball, and soccer all are centered on the notion that the goal of the game is to win. Each sport in itself has different variations on how to win but the primary objective is to win. This notion can also be applied to a very limited amount of individual sports such as Golf, Track and Field, and Swimming. These individuals all want to win as well but only rely on themselves to be the best.
- Games such as “Capture the Flag” and “Domination” were first conducted by military groups to give their soldiers combat-like scenarios.
- Practicing gives the person experience and they are statistically more likely to accomplish the primary goal.
- Spartans, and any other war-based cultures, taught their kids at a young age to fight. The youth often participated in “war games” where one side is attacking and the other side is defending.
- The progression of Story-Telling
- Since the middle of the 20th century, movies have been able to provide a visual representation of ideas and text that we use to just only imagine.
- Before movies, books were the main source of story telling and were often only accessible by the highly educated.
- Travelers would go from village to village to tell about stories they have memorized.
- Cave drawings were one of the earliest forms of communication and story telling.
- Architecture
- Early Architecture was for functionality and stability, not for aesthetics.
- Regions located around waterways had buildings that were very open and bright.
- Regions located in mountainous countries tend to either have a rugged, strong style of architecture or one based off the land around the building. The building appears to be apart of the land.
- Architecture can also show socioeconomic status when compared to the surrounding region.
