Daisiah Akbar’s Blog Post #2
My opening statement in my paper will be a Bible verse,
Ecclesiastes 1:9 (NIV) What has been will be again, what has been done will be
done again; there is nothing new under the sun.

Sports
o
Specifically basketball
o
The first ball used was a ball that was similar
to that of a soccer ball, so right off the back we can see how basketball was
influenced by soccer.
o
The skills and manner of basketball is very
similar to indoor lacrosse.

Beats/ famous lines
o
Sir Mixalot- Baby Got Back
o
When the song was released in the 80s, it was
just a fun, party song.
o
We see that Lil Wayne uses “Oh my God Becky,
look at her butt” in his raps, Lil Wayne is a lyrical genius and when he uses
this line, it’s for the same purpose as Sir Mixalot, he’s referring to a big
butt using a very famous line.
o
In the popular song Anaconda by Nicki Minaj, she
samples Baby Got Back and says Oh my God Becky, look at her butt. In the song
Anaconda, Nicki is saying that her big butt doesn’t want any attention unless
the person has money, and it’s a play on words. This song, much like Baby Got
Back is a fun, party song, played at many clubs.

Fashion
o
This is the most fun one, fashion uses a recycle
system, everything that we think is hot and new really isn’t
o
Skinny jeans, everybody loves skinny jeans,
before the 18th century, European men used to wear breeches and
hosen. Then during the French Revolution people used to wear pantaloons. Next
Marilyn Monroe reintroduced them in the 1960s. In the 2000s no one really wore
them, then in the 2010s they became popular again.
o
The shirt tied around the waist fashion
statement originated in the 90s, even when we were in middle school it was
“cool” to wear the jacket around the waist, and now in the 2010s it is a very
popular fashion statement for all.
