Blog Post #2

My first idea for the genealogy project is Snow White. There are many adaptations of snow white in modern culture. One of them is a humorous version, “Mirror, Mirror”, a film released in 2012. This version is basically the same exact plot as the original story. Another adaptation is “Sydney White” which was released in 2007. This version is a modern version of snow white, which is about a freshman in college fighting against the colleges Greek system. The Disney Snow White story was based off one of the Grimm brother stories. Some say that the original story is based off of a woman named Margarete von Waldeck. She was the lover of Phillip II of Spain, and since she was not of royal decent, she was poisoned so they couldn’t marry. She also had a terrible relationship with her stepmother. She was forced out of the house at 16, and had workers that were little kids who had to work in copper mines which stunted their growth. These kids were called dwarfs. My second idea is Frozen. Frozen is a Disney movie that has similar plot ideas to another Disney movie, the Lion King. Both open with foreign languages, both families rule their kingdom, disaster strikes and the parents die, the death causes the main character to run away, they both try to solve their problems through song, the kingdoms are both taken over by evil, both kingdoms start to go downhill, the villains try to trick the hero’s, they both return to save the day. The tale of the Lion King can be traced back to Shakespeare’s Hamlet, which can be traced back to a Norse legend composted by Saxo Grammaticus. My third idea is Cinderella. There are many versions of Cinderella in modern film. Some big examples include: Another Cinderella story (2008), Ella Enchanted (2004), A Cinderella Story (2004), Ever After (1998), and If the Shoe Fits (1990). Another thing that comes from Cinderella is the phrase “If the shoe fits.” The actual story of can be traced back from the story of Catherine de Medici.
