For my genealogy essay, my opening
statement will be a quote from the late Mark Twain “ All ideas are secondhand,
consciously and unconsciously drawn from a million outside sources. We are
constantly littering out literature with disconnected sentences borrowed from
books at some unremembered time and now imagined to be our own.”
Stephen Colbert (Character)
- - - Her Excellency The Rev. Sir Doctor Stephen Tyrone Mos Def Colbert, D.F.A., Heavyweight Champion of the World** featuring Flo Rida La Premiere Dame De France is the full title of Colbert’s on camera character all though it is mostly for comedic reasons.
- - - Colbert got the original influence for his character from television reporters Stone Phillips, and Geraldo Rivera
- - His show The Colbert Report is somewhat of a parody of right-wing conservative political pundits on the Fox news network. Most notably Sean Hannity and Bill O’Reilly. “ If it wasn’t for O’Reilly this show wouldn’t exist.”
Kanye West
- - Kanye West helped to completely change the hip hop/rap game of the second millennium. He is known for making the best beats in the game from sampling past songs for example “Strange Fruit” by Nina Simone in the song “Blood on the leaves”
- - In the music video for one of Kanye’s most famous songs “Touch the Sky” Kanye is dressed in an Evel Knievel attire and attempts to fly a rocket over a canyon.
- - Kanye has also influenced the rap game today by shifting from the “hardcore gangsta” rap style rapping about guns, drug dealing, and crime to introspective and intimate content instead.
- - West takes styles in beat making and rapping from No ID, Jay-Z, and Common as well, another Chicago based rapper
Star Wars
- - This is one of the most successful film franchises in history and has caused a huge ripple in popular culture today
- - There have been several renditions of the star wars story for different TV shows. For example Family Guy had “Blue Harvest”, “Something something Dark Side”, and “It’s a trap!” each with their own spin on episodes 4,5 and 6 of the star wars saga
- - The movie “Fanboys” is about a group of kids who drive to California to break into Skywalker Ranch and steal a rough cut of Episode 1 The Phantom Menace.
