One
idea that I thought of for the final project relates to my hometown Sarasota,
FL. A law in Florida is no one can purchase alcohol from 1a.m to 7a.m. Within
the county of Sarasota it’s against the law to purchase alcohol until noon on a
Sunday. The argument that I want to do for the final project would be that
Sarasota county lowers the time from when a person is allowed to purchase
alcohol on a Sunday. For this project the exigence or way of improving this law
could be lowering the law to 7a.m so it matches the Florida law. Another way of
improving this would be limiting the amount of alcohol a person would legally
be allowed to purchase before noon. The reason for the law is so there aren’t any
drunk people on a Sunday morning causing the city of Sarasota to look bad. By limiting
this to being able to purchase a six pack of beer or a handle of liquor 500mL
or less people wouldn’t be as likely to get drunk since they aren’t able to
purchase high quantities of alcohol. The audience for the new law would apply
to anyone 21 and over with intent to buy alcohol. Although this law could also
apply to under 21 if that person had a fake ID, showing this law applies to
anyone with intent on buying alcohol. The constraints on this law could be
people over consuming the alcohol and abusing the lower restraints on the new
law. If people consumed more alcohol in the morning and ending up causing more
problems based on this, it may result in changing the law again as harder to acquire
alcohol before noon.
