Daisiah Akbar Blog #1
Writing is any piece of written work that requires thinking; whether it be critical or creative. Writing varies from raps or poems to an extended essay. A remix is the process of copying, transforming, and combining previous pieces. Originality is almost impossible to achieve because anything you can think of can be traced back to its “ancestor” so to say. For example, Bagelfuls (a frozen bagel with cream cheese already inside it), came from the common combination of cream cheese and bagels.  With this definition of remix technically every written piece is a remix because it is all comprised of copying, transforming, and/ or combining. When people invent things they aren’t creating new things, they are just adjusting a previous item and making it more innovative and convenient. For instance, the Bagelful is a lot more convenient than the conventional bagel and cream cheese. The “remixer” of the Bagelful took the bagel and cream cheese and put their own individuality to come up with a more innovative, convenient method to eat bagel and cream cheese. There is definitely a direct correlation between writing and remixing because every time you write you are remixing a piece and every time you remix a piece you’re writing. In this course I hope to learn about many different perspectives of issues and become better at proving my point in writing by strengthening my thesis statements and facts to back it up. I also expect to meet new people and learn more about their viewpoints through class discussion, while also becoming more outspoken in class.  I hope to become a better writer through this class, both informally and formally.
